Mesh for Microsoft Teams, due to roll out in the first half of the year, offers 250 million Teams users a gateway to the metaverse – a persistent digital world inhabited by digital twins of people, places and things, where people gather to collaborate. Bringing together the mixed reality capabilities of Microsoft Mesh, launched last March, and the productivity and collaboration tools of Microsoft Teams, it enables users to create an animated avatar they can use in Teams meetings (instead of live video or a static picture) and in immersive spaces within Teams where they can mingle with colleagues, collaborate on projects and attend virtual presentations. Mesh for Teams is being rolled out with a set of pre-built immersive spaces, but in time organisations will be able to build and deploy their own metaverses.
Welcome to the metaverse
