Shake Up September

Shake Up September, a national activity logging challenge run by Workplace Challenge, is back for its second year encouraging workers to take more exercise.

A recent study published in the Lancet found that office workers must exercise for an hour a day to avoid early death. The research used data from over 1 million men and women and found that about 60-75 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity seems to eliminate the increased risk of death associated with high sitting time.

Inspired by the Olympic Games, Workplace Challenge are urging workers to sign up for free and try at least five different sports through ‘Shake Up September’. The more activities they log via the Workplace Challenge website or mobile app, the more points they will earn for their workplace as they go for gold on a national challenge leaderboard. Prizes are on offer for winning individuals and workplaces and spot prizes are available for those who get involved with the challenge.

Each day throughout September, Workplace Challenge will be showcasing a different Olympic or Paralympic sport on social media, demonstrating how workers can get away from the desk and get active.
