Multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy Hilson Moran’s new Manchester office, located on the fifth floor of Bruntwood’s Neo Building on Charlotte Street, has become the UK’s third building to be WELL Certified and the first outside London to receive Gold level certification.
The WELL Building Standard (WELL) is a project certification system designed to improve the health and well-being of building occupants by measuring performance across seven key areas – air, water, light, nourishment, fitness, comfort and mind.
Key elements of WELL include the reduction of volatile organic compound emissions (VOCs) from ft-out materials and the constant monitoring of air quality for a range of indoor and outdoor air pollutants and CO2 levels.
These priorities are reflected in the design created by interior architects SpaceInvader and contractors Dragonfly. Throughout the offices there are elements that evoke the natural world, including green moss walls and an assortment of indoor plants, as well as a variety of workspaces to encourage movement, interaction and collaboration.
By designing its new offices in accordance with WELL principles, Hilson Moran has created a healthy environment for its employees – and an advertisement for its services, as it is one of the UK’s first companies to have an in-house team of WELL APs (accredited professionals) working for clients.
