Three Birmingham treasure hunters won themselves £5,000 worth of tech each – including TVs and laptops – after finding prize boxes hidden in the city.
In an exciting competition, leading tech retailer Box gave away £15,000 of tech yesterday (Sunday), including a Samsung 55″ Crystal UHD 4K TV, ASUS laptops, an LG C2 42″ 4K OLED TV, gaming headsets and a Targus laptop backpack.
Box hid prize boxes at Secret Space in Digbeth and teased the location on social media.
Hundreds of people raced to the location and the first 25 received a box that they took to Box’s pop-up outlet in the Bullring, where a random draw decided the three lucky winners.
Degario Palmer, of Northfield, was one of the winners and his haul included a TV, gaming laptop, a gaming monitor and a gaming headset
“I saw the first clue and just bolted,” said the 18-year-old. “Everyone started running and there was a massive group trying to get a box.
“I couldn’t believe it when my number was selected at the Bullring. It felt like a dream.”
Matthew Ball, 26 and of Birmingham city centre, said: “I knew about the Box Hunt for about a week and decided to go for it.
“I was absolutely shocked to win, I didn’t quite believe it. I was in utter disbelief. I’m very excited to upgrade the tech in my house.”
The third winner was 25-year-old Shuhena Akthar of Aston, who won two laptops and accessories.
The giveaway was the official launch of Box’s Black Friday campaign. Everyone who found a box but did not win a main prize received a discount code to use online.
Mike Hart, Marketing and Content Manager at Box, said: “It was fantastic to bring the Box Hunt to our home city of Birmingham and I’m delighted so many people enjoyed taking part.
“This was the third year we have held the Box Hunt and it continues to grow in popularity.
“Congratulations to our winners who have won some amazing prizes from industry leaders, including Samsung, LG, Acer, ASUS and SteelSeries and many more.”
Box has grown to become one of the most prominent technology retailers in the UK and has recently relocated to a brand-new purpose-built distribution centre at St Modwen Park, Tamworth, next to Junction 10 of the M42.
Box plans to open an exclusive experience centre showroom at its new premises in the new year, as well as a ‘click and collect’ service point.
